About us

We are a group of committed individuals, from diverse backgrounds, who have been brought together by Najaf Mazari, an Afghan refugee, who arrived in Australia in 2001. Wanting to help the people of his homeland, Najaf and a group of friends established Mazar Development Fund Inc in 2007.

To read more about Najaf and his life, consider the book written about him "The Rugmaker of Mazar-e-Sharif" [publisher's link], by Najaf Mazari and Robert Hillman, published by Insight Publications.

"I did not know that I could feel this much sorrow without a body to bury…We who are watched and guarded, we who are questioned, probed, doubted - we are all illegals"…

Beautifully captured and penned by award-winning biographer Robert Hillman, this is a compelling story of an exceptional yet 'ordinary' man whose generous spirit, natural leadership and desire for peace, transcends enormous danger and heartbreak.
